Our Story

Lila and Chuck met in September of 2023. This photo was a year after they met on Chuck’s one year of sobriety!

This photo was taken 2 days before Lila and Chuck started dating. Lila was planning on moving to Kaua’i, but she quickly realized her plans needed to change!

Chuck discovered his love for dancing when Lila brought him to an ABBA dance! They haven’t stopped dancing since then.

Lila last-minute joins Chuck on a trip to meet Chuck’s family including baby Luke and Violet (Chuck’s niece and nephew).

Lila celebrates 2 years of sobriety!

Chuck meets Lila’s parents as “Lila’s boyfriend”. He had met them once before when they were just friends.

Lila and Chuck go to Kaua’i for Lila’s 27th birthday. Lila had a feeling Chuck might propose on the trip, but not yet…

Chuck proposes in the place they first met! Kailua Beach Park where their daily meeting meets.

HNL Airport

Fly into HNL airport. Rental car services are easily accessible as well as Uber. We recommend getting a rental car if you want to explore the island.

Where to Stay?

We recommend staying in a hotel in Waikiki or an AirBNB in Kailua or Kane’ohe if you want to minimize driving. Rental cars are recommended to transport to the venue/events. The venue is in Kane’ohe, which is a 30-45 minute drive from Waikiki.

Luxury, high end hotel with fine dining restaurants. Also in the heart of Waikiki with a lot of walkable beaches and restaurants.

Halekulani

Closest option to the venue. Beautiful views of Kane’ohe Bay and the Ko’olau Mountain Range. Old Hawaii vibes. Call to book ASAP as it fills up quick. 30-45 minutes from downtown Honolulu. Country vibes, more for relaxing, halfway to the North Shore.

Beautiful view of the east side mountains. <a href="https://royalhawaiiangc.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Royal Hawaiian</a>	Luxury Course, higher difficulty level, breathtakingly beautiful. <a href="https://www.honolulu.gov/des/ala-wai-golf-course/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ala Wai </a>	Municipal course close to Waikiki Hotels. Has a driving range too <a href="https://alawairange.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>.

Surf

We recommend surfing right out from Waikiki beach. Aloha Beach Services or Faith Surf School are both located in front of Duke’s Waikiki. Option for lessons or renting boards to go out to a beginner surf break.

Olay’s Thai Cuisine: Located in the heart of Chinatown. Cute outdoor patio and delicious Thai food. Deck: Located in the Queen Kapiolani Hotel. Beautiful view of Diamondhead. Duke’s: Iconic spot right on Waikiki beach. Chuck worked here for a few years. Must get a Mai Tai. Kizuna’s: If you are on the east side (Kailua or Kaneohe). Lila and Chuck’s favorite sushi spot. Fete: Fancy and delicious. Also in Chinatown. We went here for our engagement dinner. Moku Kitchen: Lila works here. Great farm to table food in a hip area. Monkeypod Waikiki: Right on the water. Great brunch. Recommend making a reservation. Doraku Waikiki: Good sushi in the city. Have a late night happy hour. Island Vintage Wine Bar: Also amazing breakfast. Very cute, located in Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center in Waikiki. Rainbow Drive In: Local food—plate lunches.

Hikes

Crouching Lion	More difficult, climbing, wear good shoes. Can get muddy—not recommended if it’s raining.

Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail	Easy, paved hike. It is slightly a workout, but so worth it!

Diamondhead Crater HikeAlso a well maintained, easier hike. Best to do in the morning, it gets hot! View of Honolulu. If parking, need a reservation <a href="https://gostateparks.hawaii.gov/diamondhead/about" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>.

Snorkeling

Lanikai BeachEasy snorkeling—straight out from the beach there is coral and fish. Hanauma BayMust get reservations <a href="https://hanaumabaystatepark.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>. Also from the beach, lifeguards are present. Snorkel Tour Boat to Turtle CanyonsLila used to work on <a href="https://livingoceantours.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Living Ocean Tours</a>. There are many other good ones. Take Dramamine the night before and 30 minutes before if you get sea sick.

Sunset Cruise

Lila’s favorite is <a href="https://moanawaikiki.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Moana Sailing Company</a> that boards at Kewalo Basin. Chuck’s favorite is <a href="https://www.kepoikai.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kepoikai</a> that boards right from Waikiki beach. More adventurous, might get wet! Other options: <a href="https://nahoku2.com/sunset-sail-waikiki/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Na Hoku</a> — also boards from the beach (yellow boats, booze cruise), <a href="https://www.princekuhiotours.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Prince Kuhio</a> — dinner cruise, larger boat so more stable.

Luau

Recommend <a href="https://www.germainesluau.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Germaine’s Luau</a> or <a href="https://www.alohakailuau.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sea Life Park Luau</a>. Traditional Hawaiian food, dancing, Hawaiian language, etc.

Buddhist temple in the heart of the east side of O’ahu. $10 entry for a walk through the site. Don’t need to purchase tickets ahead of time!
